Get a written price
- Send the job on WhatsApp: what you are doing, the town and the dates.
- Get your quote: the machine, the operator, transport and the total, in writing.
- Pay to book and the machine arrives on site with its operator.
We reply Monday to Friday 07:00–17:00, Saturday 07:00–13:00.
1. The agreement
Your hire is an agreement between you and Basalt Plant Hire. Basalt Plant Hire is a trading name of LY CONSULTING. The agreement is made up of your written quote (sent on WhatsApp or email), your acceptance of it, and these terms.
2. Quotes and prices
- Every hire is quoted in writing before the machine moves: the machine and size, the operator, the rate (per hour, day, week or month), wet or dry, transport both ways, and any extras.
- Prices exclude VAT unless the quote says otherwise.
- A quote is valid for the period stated on it. Prices on this website are a guide; your written quote is the price.
3. Booking and payment
- Payment is up front, as follows, and the amounts are on your written quote:
- Hires of 1 or 2 days are paid in full, with transport, before the machine is sent.
- Hires of 3 days or more need a 50% deposit plus transport to book; the balance is paid before the last working day.
- Monthly and long-term hire is paid a month in advance, starting with the first month.
- Extra days, hours or transport agreed during the job are confirmed in writing and added to the balance.
4. Working hours
- A day rate covers the working day stated on your quote, usually 8–9 hours. Hours beyond that are charged at the rate on your quote.
- Hourly hires have the minimum hours stated on your quote.
- Monthly hires are based on the hours per month stated on your quote, usually about 200.
- Your site representative confirms the hours worked each day.
5. Standing time and weather
- If the machine and operator are on site and ready but can't work because of the site (no access, work not ready, no one to show the job, waiting on another trade), that time is standing time and is charged as stated on your quote.
- How rain days are handled is agreed on your quote before the hire starts.
6. Breakdowns
If the machine breaks down, we send a replacement machine or you are not charged for the time the machine cannot work. Tell us straight away so we can respond.
7. The operator
- Machines with an operator are run only by our operator. The operator decides how the machine is operated safely and may stop work that is unsafe, for example lifting beyond the machine's rated capacity or working too close to power lines.
- Your site representative directs the work: where to dig, lift, load or level.
8. Your responsibilities on site
- Safe access to the work area for the machine and its transport.
- Showing us the positions of underground services (water, sewer, electricity, fibre, gas) and overhead power lines before work starts. Damage to services that were not pointed out is your responsibility.
- Permits and approvals the work needs, such as municipal wayleaves, demolition approvals and road closures.
- Firm ground for cranes' outriggers and lift areas kept clear of people.
- For machines hired without an operator (small plant, and forklifts or lifts hired as machine only): use by a competent, certified person where the law requires it, and return in the same condition, fair wear and tear excepted.
9. Transport
Transport to site and back is charged as its own line on your quote. If a hire is cancelled after the machine has left for site, the transport already used is payable.
10. Cancellations and changes
Tell us as early as possible if your dates change. How a cancellation affects your deposit is stated on your quote.
11. Certificates and documents
On request we send copies of the operator's proof of competency, medical certificate of fitness and, for lifting machines, the current load-test certificate, before the machine arrives. Company documents are available for formal quotes.
12. Questions
WhatsApp us or email info@basaltplanthire.co.za. If anything in these terms is unclear, ask before you book.
